Who We Are

ABOUT

Dan Hubbard

Founder & CEO of Oasis

Dan’s life was transformed when he met Nicky, an evangelist and advocate of the unhoused community, at Redondo Pier in the mid-eighties. Inspired by Nicky’s love and dedication to service, Dan joined her ministry — feeding the homeless in Skid Row and visiting inmates in the Linwood facility of the LA County Jail System. After Nicky’s passing (in 2020) , Dan vowed to continue her ministry and expanded Oasis Network’s reach to Redondo and Venice Beach. For over twenty years, Dan has worked tirelessly to feed the homeless. Through the trust and respect he has built in this community, he now serves as an advocate, connecting unhoused individuals to the resources they may need. Dan’s strong relationships with the unhoused community and his extensive connections with social service organizations have enabled him to aid minors trapped in sex trafficking, women escaping domestic violence, men harmed in violent altercations, and individuals suffering from severe mental illness.

We are a Christian outreach working to spread the love and compassion of Jesus to those in most need. By providing for people’s basic needs, we hope to share God’s heart and the message of salvation.

We are first and foremost a heart ministry, not a food ministry.

We provide Biblical teaching before distributing food, and we stay hours after our food ministry to talk with members of the unhoused community. By consistently serving every day in Redondo and Venice, we show that we love and honor our unhoused brothers and sisters even though they are often dehumanized in society.

Oasis is led and run by the unhoused community for the unhoused community

When Dan’s van pulls into the parking lot, volunteers also struggling with homelessness help unload the van, organize the line, and serve food to their fellow community members. Dan endorses that:

“We give people the opportunity to get their hearts involved, and we don’t know how far the impact goes.”

Our hope is to provide a ministry that helps foster integrity, responsibility, and leadership to the same people we are serving.

While many soup kitchens and food banks distribute weekly or monthly, Oasis provides fresh produce, bread, kitchen staples, and ready-made meals every single day. We are every weekday at the Redondo Pier and every weekend on Venice Beach.

“Especially on the weekends, this is one of the few places where we can stock up on food for the week. There are really no options on Sunday. There aren’t as many resources available as during the week.”
